Boca Raton Invokana & Type 2 Diabetes Lawyer

If you suffer from Type 2 diabetes, you know that this can be a serious, life-changing disease that can be dangerous if it is left untreated. With today’s advancements in technology and modern medicine, there are a number of treatment options and medications available to help patients who suffer from Type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes is a common condition that affects 29.1 million adults in the United States. Type 2 Diabetes condition is when the body has a problem with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

As a result, these levels rise higher than normal. This condition is also known as hyperglycemia, and is the most common form of diabetes.

While adults who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes can often control it with proper diet and exercise, many adults also take medications in order to treat diabetes symptoms and even help lower blood sugar levels. Invokana is a popular drug used to help maintain blood sugar levels.

Is Invokana Dangerous?

fda warningHowever, studies and reports have shown that the drug Invokana can actually be dangerous. In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning regarding the usage of Invokana in May 2015. Using this particular medication can cause the body to produce high levels of blood acids. This is also known as diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be a serious and even deadly cardiac condition.

Approximately 20 patient cases have involved needing hospitalization and emergency care. All these cases involved the drug Invokana.

Some symptoms can include:

  • Brain swelling
  • Kidney failure
  • Cardiac conditions

In December 2015, the FDA required Invokana manufacturers to update drug labels to include warnings and risks of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Studies have also shown that patients who take Invokana might also experience serious urinary tract infections (UTIs). The warnings recommended that users be on the look out for the following symptoms and complications:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Extreme and unusual fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Confusion

Legal Actions

After December 2015, once Invokana manufacturers updated drug labels, and more and more patient cases were emerging, attorneys began filing lawsuits for patients who have developed serious conditions as a result of taking Invokana.
